Tingle's Travels

The purpose of this blog is to give all of my friends the chance to see how my life is going on the other side of the Atlantic. I will try to keep it up-to-date as much as possible. Feel free to check it as often as you like and leave posts so I can feel at home across the sea.

The Gang's All Here

This is the entire group from Covenant here at Oxford this semester. From left to right: Charity, Evan, Brendan, Cara, Sarah and me. This picture was taken just before our trip to St. Albanes. Brendan and Cara live in the same house as me and the other three live in a smaller one on the North side of town.

Yesterday was a good day for two reasons. I had a great tutorial with my Lewis professor. We talked for about an hour about MacDonald's Lilith. She had some really great things to say, and seemed to like what I thought too, which was a definite plus. MacDonald had a lot to say about the necessity of dying to one's self in order to attain true life. His symbolism in Lilith, is extremely rich and well developed. If anyone's interested, I'd love to talk to them about it! (Dana) ;0).

The other thing which made yesterday good was that I found out Simon (the equivalent to the Dean of Students of the program I'm here with) is an avid scrabble player. He's even got the official scrabble game clock. Of course, I couldn't resist challanging him to a friendly game of squabble. Apparently, they have a similar game over here known as "steal a word." The rules aren't exactly the same, but he beat me by one all the same. I think we're going to start playing over the wonderful British tradition of afternoon tea.

Yesterday around 3 PM I went down to the Farmer's market at Gloucester Green (kind of the central square here in oxford) to pick up some source of vitamin C that has been lacking in my diet since I arrived. They show up early every Wednesday to sell whatevery they're growing. Around 3 all the farmers start wanting to close up shop and head for home so they start slashing prices. Because I'm so cheap, and don't really care where the Vitamin C is coming from as long as it's making it into my system, I planned on showing up just about that time, even though I had to wait around in town for an hour doing nothing in order to do so. The long and the short of it was I walked away with 2 grapefruits, 3 BIG orangers and about 20 plums for just over 2 pounds.

Alright, my schedule for today consists of lectures at 1o and 11, followed by prayer with Simon (prayer not squabble, I promise) at 2. Then I'll bite a nice juicy chunk out of Paradise Lost and try to wash it down with a generous portion of The Screwtape Letters. That paper's not due until next Wednesday, but the Great Gatsby assignment comes hot on it heels, so I need to get through one and start the other.

Finally, I want to say a quick hello to Elijah, Isaac, and Levi Doss, as they will be reading this today. Hey guys! I hope you enjoy dad's day off. Vic, you should read them some of MacDonald's children stories. They are excellent. ;0). Have a great day! Posted by Picasa
