Tingle's Travels

The purpose of this blog is to give all of my friends the chance to see how my life is going on the other side of the Atlantic. I will try to keep it up-to-date as much as possible. Feel free to check it as often as you like and leave posts so I can feel at home across the sea.

The Essence of Mancakes

While this is a beautiful picture and sparks many fond memories in the engine of my mind, you'll have to read the previous two post for context. I really need to figure out how to link photo albums to this thing. Posted by Picasa

My Roommates

So this is room 15. Me, Jamie, Travis and Adam. Jamie spent a year at Westpoint before transfering out to a school called Westmont. He plans to eventually be a chaplain in the army but wanted to go in as a soldier instead of an officer to experience what his men would experience, and he's pretty much the ultimate male. When he's not raising lamas and leading summer excursions into the family land in the Montana wilderness, he's at Oxford studying the philosophy of war. When my alarm goes off every morning, I turn it off and go back to sleep. But Jamie gets up and runs 5 miles.

Travis hails from Souix Falls, South Dakota. He plans to attend seminary after he graduates this year and move on from there. He's about 6'3", towering over Jamie by at least 3/4 of an inch.

Adam is the pure philosopher of the group. He's from Minnesota and he absolutely loves the fact that the temperature is hanging in the 40's here. He has discovered a passion for cooking since coming to Oxford, and has stated it's the most excited thing he's learned so far since being here. He's also joined with the amateur boxing club here at Oxford and has now discovered a passion for being sore.

It's been an absolute blessing getting to know these guys. God is so good. Though we stay extremely busy with our individual studies, our room is a great place to come back to, and we all enjoy the others' company.

2 weeks ago, we started having Tuesday morning breakfast together. We call it...Mancakes. During the week, we discuss what want to have and figure out what we need to buy. Tuesday morning we all get up and pool our resources to cook a breakfast fit for kings. The first week we made stacks of french toast and this week we had banana and walnut pancakes. But they weren't just any pancakes. They were Jamie's mom's pancakes, and they had oats and other goodies in them. They were great, and kept me full pretty much all day.

Anyway, these are the guys I'm living with. On the study docket for this week I have the first two books of Lewis' Space Trilogy Out of the Silent Planet and Paralandra and Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises. I'm really looking forward to seeing what I get out of the Hemingway, and of course Ransom's story is always a welcomed read. Posted by Picasa
